The Act-Belong-Commit campaign is a world-first comprehensive community-based health promotion campaign designed to build population mental health. The 'act', ‘belong’ and 'commit' domains are a simple 'a-b-c' for good mental health. Evaluation shows the campaign is increasing people’s knowledge of the sorts of things they can and should do to keep mentally healthy, reducing stigma associated with mental illness and encouraging people to be more open about mental health issues, and is encouraging people to engage in activities conducive to mental wellbeing, including joining community organisations and volunteering.
The positivity of the campaign strikes a chord with people of all backgrounds and generates requests to get involved from a wide variety of community organisations - ranging from dragon boat racing to Tai Chi, to women’s health, men’s sheds, choirs, youth groups, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service (amongst many many others). The campaign has reached a crucial stage where demand is far outstripping the capacity to respond.
Donations will assist Mentally Healthy WA:
Overall, donations will help spread the word that keeping mentally healthy is just as important as physically healthy - and that it’s as easy as 'a-b-c'. More importantly, it will result in greater social cohesion, enhanced individual wellbeing and resilience, enhanced quality of life, and a greater capacity by individuals and communities to cope with the stresses and strains of life.
