50fifty Acquisition Initiative

The 50fifty Acquisition Initiative was launched in 2017 in recognition of Curtin University's 50 Years of Innovation celebrations. The initiative aims to acquire fifty significant new pieces of art to build upon and compliment the University's existing art collection.

Curtin University's art collection reflects the best of Australian and Western Australian art and is built upon a strong philosophical commitment of integrating art into everyday experiences, whilst fostering and promoting local art practices. Much of the Collections' content is culturally significant, and has important holdings of works on paper, including The Herbert Mayer Collection of Carrolup Artwork.

To launch this initiative the University attained a major art work by one of Australia's leading painters Brian Blanchflower. Canopy XXII (Time Generator) from 1990 is a signature work from the artist's magnificent Canopy Series. The University also commissioned well-known artist and Curtin graduate, Andrew Nicholls, to create Flock, which expresses the growth of our international focus over the past five decades and was unveiled at our gala dinner in August 2017.
