Emma, Give to Change recipient

Occupational therapy student, Emma, was in the final year of her course when she discovered the Go Global Scholarship.

"I watched a number of clips [on the website] from students benefiting from the [Go Global Scholarship] program and was inspired by the opportunities that arose as a result."

The four-week scholarship is an international student mobility program that provides health sciences students with the opportunity to complete fieldwork placements at Curtin's partner organisations in Asia.

Emma's occupational therapy course had already enhanced her study experience through fieldwork placements in Perth, however, she decided the scholarship would be a great opportunity to immerse herself in a completely different culture and assist people, all while developing her skills.

"The Go Global Scholarship has made a huge difference to my life, as it has given me an opportunity to travel to a developing country and put into practice the skills I have learned throughout university. Through this experience I [was given] the chance to work with different people, contribute to the health of a country reaching out for help, and implement projects aimed at improving health and wellbeing in Cambodia," Emma says.

The scholarship also offered financial relief during a challenging time in Emma's course, when her commitment to fieldwork placements and study left her limited time to undertake paid work.

"My stress load has been lifted as a result of the scholarship, as it has allowed me to put more energy into my final year practical placements, instead of struggling to juggle paid work and a full-time placement," she says.
